Here's a radio campign
we ran for FARANG Magazine. A farang, for those who've never been to
Thailand or been here less than 20 minutes, is the slightly derogatory
term the locals have for white people. We thought we'd take the sting
out of the term and have a bit of fun by naming our monthly travel
magazine FARANG. And it was fun, for a while.
The hard copy ad on the left was used during the SARS crisis. Unfortunately, it proved a
little too naughty for our printer Bangkok Post, who refused to run it in their rag.
Anyway,

see how the mag, now renamed Untamed Travel, is doing these days.
Basically an excuse to get drunk with our mates, the FARANG Survivor Challenge was part game show, part live music, part networking event and part aboslute chaos. Nevertheless, it was a great way to see the country and promote the mag at the same time.
Below are a couple of the radio ads we ran to promote these events.
Thanks to DJ Bee from Futon for the mix on one and Keith from Humm Music for help with the other.
There's only one thing better than a brewery giving you free beer and that's when they also give you cash. Unbelieveably, the humble FARANG Survivor Challenge suddenly had a budget that allowed us to book all our favourite bands, prettiest dancers, comandeer a ten wheel truck, fill it with sound and light equipment (and cases of Singha Beer) and head off to all of our favourite Thai destinations.
As for the radio ad, the only thing you need to know is that in Thai a 'gig' is a NSA frik buddy: an creative opportunity not to be sniffed at by an self-deprecating concert organiser. Click on the link below to hear the ad ...
